Team Info

The Kansas City Monarchs were the longest running team in the Negro Leagues, playing from 1920-1965. JL Wilkinson founded the team and was elected into the hall of fame for his work as an owner. The Monarchs were one of the most successful teams, winning 12 league titles and won the Negro League World Series in 1924 and 1942. Amazingly, they only had one season with a losing record in 45 years. The team is credited with being the first baseball team to hold night games when they brought a portable lighting system to games in trucks beginning in 1930.
