One of the most successful and well known baseball teams of all time, the Homestead Grays began as a semi pro team of steelworkers in 1900. Cum Posey, a player in 1911 eventually took over in 1912 as manager and eventually became the team owner. Posey brought the team to the professional level by seeking out talent throughout the country. Although the team was founded in Homestead, Pennsylvania, the Grays' popularity caused them to move out of Homestead altogether and split home games between Pittsburgh and Washington DC. The Grays would eventually win 11 league titles including 3 Negro World Series championships.
