The Buckeyes were initially established in Cincinnati, but moved to Cleveland after one season. In Cleveland, the team had great success, winning 2 Negro American League titles including a sweep in the Homestead Grays in the 1945 Negro World Series. The team briefly moved to Louisville in 1949, however moved back to Cleveland in 1950 before folding later that season.
