The Seals began play in the WHL as the San Francisco Seals in 1961. The team moved to Oakland for the 1966-67 season. While in Oakland, the team was sold to an investor group including Whitey Ford and Pat Summerall. When the group could not make make payments, Oakland A's owner Charles O. Finley (aka "Charlie O"), purchased the the team and changed their colors to the green and gold of the A's. With few accomplishments on the ice, the Seals were the first hockey team to put names on the back of their jerseys. Due to poor attendance, the Seals moved to Cleveland to become the Barons in 1976.
