The original Los Angeles Angels were a minor league team which began play in 1892 as the Seraphs. Although the team name was changed in 1901, the Seraphs nickname continued to stick with the team for decades after. The team was very successful, winning 11 pennants and boasting some extremely dominant teams. The 1934 Angels were so dominant, that instead of playing another team in the postseason, they played a series against an all star team which the Angels won. The nearby Hollywood Stars began to challenge the Angels in the later years creating a fierce rivalry. This included a 1953 brawl that had to be broken up by 50 police officers.
In 1957, Brooklyn Dodgers owner Walter O'Malley purchased the team, with the agreement the team would stay in LA. The following year however, O'Malley moved the Dodgers to LA and the Angels were relocated and renamed. The Dodgers would adopt the 1956 LA logo worn on the Angels' hats, which is still worn today. Additionally, a major league team would take the Angels name 4 years later.
