Carolina Cougars Jersey
Team Info
Years Active: 1969-1974
Stadiums: Greensboro Coliseum, Charlotte Coliseum, Dorton Arena
The Carolina Cougars played in the ABA for 5 seasons after originally being the Houston Mavericks. The team mainly played in Greensboro, but also played home games in Charlotte and Raleigh. Tom Meschery coached the team in 1971-72 and after retiring as a player, Larry Brown took over the following season. Brown's first season would be the most successful for the team and the Cougars hosted game 7 of the division finals. In a move questioned by many, the team chose to play the game in Charlotte instead of their usual home in Greensboro. The Cougars lost and played one more season in 1973-74 before the team was sold and moved to St. Louis.
