The Soul are one of the most well-known teams in Arena Football League (AFL)ï»ż history. The team was established in 2004 by a group high-profile investors led by Craig Spencer and rock musician Jon Bon Jovi. Minority stakes were held by Philadelphia Eagles legend Ron “Jaws” Jaworski and Bon Jovi’s bandmate, Richie Sambora. The team won the Arana Bowl, the league’s championship, in 2008. In 2009, though, the Soul, along with the entire AFL, ceased operations. The league returned in 2010 with the Soul re-joining in 2011, led by Spencer and Jaworski from the original ownership group. Former Eagles coach Dick Vermeil and former Saints receiver Marcus Colston joined later as minority investors. After missing the play-offs their first season back, the Soul ran off a string of eight straight post-season appearances, including back to back Arena Bowl victories in 2017 and 2017. After the 2019 season, the league once again ceased operations. In 2023, though, the league was once again revived, the Soul included.
