Jerry Jones began his AFL ownership by acquiring the old Dallas Texans name and selling it to Houston for the new NFL franchise. The new franchise was named the Desperados after a fan vote, and Cowboys special teams coach Joe Avezzano was named head coach. Despite some impressive regular season records, like the Cowboys of recent history the Desperados were unable to make it to a championship game.
