The Aces were originally founded as an amateur team by Anglo-Canadian Pulp and Paper Mills with A.C.E.S an abbreviation for Anglo-Canadian Employees. The team was so good however, that it won the Allan Cup in 1944 and became a professional team the following year. The team eventually became a farm team for the Philadelphia Flyers before the Nordiques moved into the arena. Â
