Hawaii Islanders 1980's Jersey
Years Active: 1961-1987
Stadiums: Honolulu Stadium, Aloha Stadium, Les Murakami Stadium
When the Giants relocated to San Francisco, the Sacramento Solons lost fan support and needed a new home. As a result, the team chose Honolulu and took the name of a local amateur team. The Islanders were very successful, however Honolulu Stadium was aging and in poor condition. Travel also proved to be difficult with visiting teams playing as many as 8 games in a series to avoid making multiple trips. After moving to a new stadium, attendance declined with fans unwilling to travel. In their final season, the Islanders finished last in attendance and were moved and rebranded following the 1987 season. The Islanders had many notable sportscasters in their short time including Al Michaels, Ken Wilson, Les Keiter, Mel Proctor, and Al Conin.
