The Tampa Bay Bandits played 3 seasons in the USFL from 1983-85 at Tampa Stadium. The Bandits had some of the highest attendance numbers and were known for their exciting style of play; "Bandit Ball". The team was primarily owned by John Bassett, while actor Burt Reynolds had partial ownership in the team. Steve Spurrier served as head coach of the team in what was his first head coaching job.
