The San Antonio Gunslingers played two seasons in the USFL in 1984-85 at Alamo Stadium. The team was known for their strong defense nicknamed "The Bounty Hunters." From the beginning, the Gunslingers were underfunded, playing with very poor field conditions and financial problems only became worse. Players would race each other to the bank to cash checks, knowing half of them would bounce. The franchise was eventually revoked by the league when the owner stopped paying bills.
