Portland Mavericks Low Profile Hat
The Portland Mavericks played from 1973-77 at Civic Stadium and were the last independent team in professional baseball. The team was owned by actor Bing Russell who was known for doing things his own way. From holding open tryouts, to lighting brooms on fire, the Mavericks were known for outrageous antics. The team won division titles in 4 of their 5 seasons and became so hated by the league, minor league organizations would often demote their better players to play against the Mavericks. The Mavericks played their final game in a 1977 championship game loss. Afterwards, the team disbanded due to a territorial dispute when the Beavers returned. A new Portland Mavericks team is set to return to the field in the near future.
