New York Raiders/Blades/Jersey Knights T-Shirt
Years Active: 1972-1974
Stadiums: Madison Square Garden, Cherry Hill Arena
The New York Raiders were one of the original WHA teams and were scheduled to play in the newly built Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. In response, the NHL immediately placed an expansion team (New York Islanders) in the arena to block the Raiders. The Raiders moved to Madison Square Garden, but struggled to compete with the Rangers. The following season, the team was sold and renamed the Golden Blades, but remained in Madison Square Garden. The situation didn't improve and the team was moved midseason and renamed the Jersey Knights. The new stadium proved to be unsuitable and dangerous and the team moved to San Diego in 1974.
