The New York Cubans were formed by Alex Pompez, former owner of the Cuban Stars (East). The New York Cubans, however were not limited to only Cuban players as previous teams were. Hispanic players of various backgrounds and all skin tones played for the team which spent time in both the Negro National and Negro American Leagues. The Cubans won their first and only Negro World Series in 1947, but folded 3 years later as players began to move to the major leagues and the Negro Leagues declined.
