The Memphis Hound Dogs were a proposed NFL team in 1993. The team name originated from the fact that Elvis Presley Enterprises was a main investor. The team was rejected and the Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars were chosen as expansion teams instead. One of the investors continued the effort and created the Memphis Mad Dogs which played in the CFL for one season.Â
