The Jacksonville Sharks played in the first season of the World Football League in 1974. Although the team had good attendance, the team struggled both financially and with their play on the field. The owner stopped playing players and attempted to sell the team midway through the season. The league eventually took over, but the Sharks folded after week 14. The following season, the team was replaced by a new team, the Jacksonville Express. With new ownership and a new roster including quarterback George Mira, the team had a winning record before the league folded midseason.
