The Atlanta Black Crackers were named after the white minor league team (Atlanta Crackers) with which they shared a stadium. The Black Crackers primarily played at the minor league level, but competed at the major league level in the Negro American League from 1937-38. During this time, the team came close to its first league title in 1938 when they won the second half championship. The league championship series was cancelled after 2 games however and no champion was declared. The Black Crackers would later win a championship at the minor league level in 1945 in the Negro Southern League.
