The original Portland Beavers began play in 1901, eventually taking the Beavers name in 1903. The team was extremely successful, winning 6 titles before withdrawing from the league in 1917 due to World War I. Over the next century, professional baseball in Portland would come and go but the Beavers name remained a tradition. In total, four separate organizations used the Portland Beavers name, winning 9 championships. The last team to be known as the Beavers played their final season in 2010, when PGE Park was remodeled for soccer and the team was left without a home.
