The Chicago Whales played in the Federal League, which was a short lived third major league, competing against the American and National Leagues. In its first season, the team had no name and was simply known as the Chicago Federals. The following season, the team took the Chicago Whales name and won what turned out to be the final Federal League championship. The Whales were the original team to play in Wrigley Field which was known as Weeghman Park. Following the collapse of the Federal League, the Whales merged with the Cubs who moved into Wrigley Field.
