The Ottawa Rough Riders began play in 1876 as Ottawa Football Club and officially adopted the Rough Riders name in 1898. The team held exhibition games against the New York Giants of the NFL in 1950 and 1951 and joined the CFL in its first season in 1958. In the 1990's. The Rough Riders won 9 Grey Cups with the last in 1976. The team began to struggle on the field in the 1980's and 90's and the owners left to form the Shreveport Pirates in 1994. The Riders eventually folded in 1996 after 120 seasons.
