1988-91 Minnesota Jersey
Team Info
Years Active: 1967-1992
Stadium: Met Center
Minnesota began play in 1967 and its first season was marred by tragedy. Bill Masterton, who scored the team's first goal, died following a severe concussion suffered in a game. Despite the tragedy, the team rallied and made the playoffs in their first season. Minnesota would go on to make two finals appearances, but never won a championship. Financial problems and poor attendance were said to be factors in the team's demise, however a more strange reason was rumored to be the cause. Reports surfaced that the owner's wife threatened to leave him unless he moved the team after he was involved in a sexual harassment case. Whatever the reason, the team was renamed and moved following the 1992 season. The franchise was sold shortly after and Minnesota would receive a new expansion team 8 years later.
