The Pipers began play in Pittsburgh in 1968, winning the first ABA championship. Despite a very successful season and solid attendance, the team moved to Minneapolis the following year. With poor attendance in its first season in Minnesota, the Pipers again moved back to Pittsburgh. This time however, fan support was not the same as fans felt abandoned by the team. The Pipers were eventually sold and renamed the Condors. In its short history, the Pipers featured two hall of fame coaches in Vern Mikkelsen and Buddy Jeannette.
