The Memphis franchise began as the Pros after moving from New Orleans. The Pros had very little attendance and were eventually sold to Charles O. Finley, owner of the Oakland A's and California Golden Seals. Finley changed the colors to green and gold to match his other teams and the team name to Tams (standing for Tennessee Arkansas Mississippi). It soon became clear Finley had little interest in the team however and ABA Commissioner Mike Storen resigned to take over the team. Storen recruited new co-owners including Isaac Hayes and changed the team name once again, this time to the Sounds. The 1974-75 season as the Sounds finally brought crowds and success on the court. Unfortunately, the new owners had financial problems and sold the team after just one season.
